The Cons of Euthanasia

"Think of all those ages through which men had the courage to die, and then remember that we have actually fallen to talking about having the courage to live."

 -G.K. Chesterton

The legalization of euthanasia will be a seriously detrimental law that will cause many problems, many of which we can now invasion yet. Firstly, physician assisted sucidies are a direct breech of the Hippocratic Oath, arguably one of the most important document in medical ethics; it says 'I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect.'

Do we want doctors to decide who lives and dies? That is a tremendous role for one to fill, regardless of any kind of medical experience. Doctors could be subject to ridicule for 'playing god' when they were only trying to do as their patient wished. That seems far from fair.

As far as the financial side of things, medical insurance can get very tricky and insurers could be in it for the money. People seeking life insurance money could have hidden financial motives. How will the law be established so that there are no loopholes?

Such a strong idea can make our perspective widen. If this were legal, we would have to think about the empirical slippery slope that awaits us. If we allow this then what's next?

A Final Word

Final Project: The Audio Story

I chose to base my project off of some fun facts about horses. I personally love horses. I targeted this video for a younger audience. I used slide effects, the razor tool, the matching tool, and the trimming tool in order to perfect my audio story in Premiere.

The Animatic

What I learned

I learned how to import my audio that was edited in Audition into Premiere. I learned Premiere's general layout and began to understand where to find the tools I need in this software. I learned how to correctly organize my files with bins and labels and now know which windows within the software are for editing.

What I did

Since my audio story consisted of interviews with people's top 3 wishes, I decided to take pictures describing each person's wishes. Once I planned and shot my photos and subjects, I edited the pictures slightly for quality in Photoshop then imported them into Premiere. Once my photos aligned with my audio, I resized each so that there were no black borders or abnormalities between all the pictures.

Audio Story

My Audio Story

What would you use three wishes on?

In this assignment, I used Adobe Audition to create an audio story filled with interviews, ambient sounds, voice overs, and background music. I utilized the Audition tools such as markers, fade tool, and the razor tool.

Preparation for my Audio Story

Topic

My topic revolves around the question: is it possible to change one's intelligence level?

Experts + Interviews

I first interviewed Alejandro Maya, a freshman at High Point. I asked him what he'd use three wishes on and after saying he'd wish for knowledge I began thinking if there was a way humans can change their intelligence level. Can someone become a math star after years of resenting math? If so, what is holding us back from potentially mastering all things? For my expert opinion, I will be interviewing my success coach, a psychology professor, and maybe someone from the

Music

Since my audio story will be about growing your intelligence, I wanted to keep the music light, inspirational, and motivational. I chose electronic dance for my first two segments of background music. Using the razor tool, marker tool, and fade tools, I was able to get important bits of interviews from my audio files and fade in background music to make it more auxiliary pleasing.

Short(end) Story

"What would you do if you had three wishes?"

Editing

Once my interviews and voice overs had been recorded and downloaded and saved, I imported them all into Audition and set up multitrack sessions. Using the marker tool I made note in each audio piece which segments were important and which needed to be removed. Using the razor tool and move tool, I arranged my audio in the correct and final order.

Exporting and Embedding

Once I exported my multi-track session into a .wav file, I saved in in the correct folder in my project folder. From there I uploaded my file to Soundcloud.

Audio Stories (#1)

Blog #1

Audio Basics!

Editing audio is an incredibly tedious and intricate process that sometimes ends horribly! However, once you get used to the program you use and learn what each tool is and how it functions, editing starts to get real fun. Most multimedia projects use four different types of sound: interview clips, voice-overs, natural sound and ambient sound; being familiar with these is an important step in a successful editing process.

Interview clips are recordings of a piece's subjects. Interview sound bites are crucial to stories as they add texture and help bring the characters and story to life.

Any recording that has scripted narration is referred to as a voice-over and are typically recorded in a studio. These help the story line keep its momentum throughout the session.

Sound effects can be referred to as natural sounds. These are the specific elements that own the audience's attention and propel the subject.

Ambient sounds are background noises that create a greater sense of detail for every element of a story. They help make a setting more realistic or aid in the portrayal of emotion.

It is critical to remember to always minimize noise in the background of your audio works. Having white noise will greatly distract your listener and even hinder your whole project's ability to get a thought concept across. Using sound to add details in your audio editing process will engage your audience and interest them. With a multitude of free sound effects available through the internet, it is actually incredibly easy (and fun!) using sound effects in projects.

Radio Lab and Ira Glass

I listened to a podcast that posed the question of why humans write. Why do we play pretend? A story can be told multiple times and multiple ways. This idea relates to Ira Glass' "moments of reflection" due to Ira Glass' points of how differently it is to write in high school versus writing for broadcasting purposes. You are taught one way to write than are introduced into an entirely new tactic of enhancing a story.
