The legalization of euthanasia will be a seriously detrimental law that will cause many problems, many of which we can now invasion yet. Firstly, physician assisted sucidies are a direct breech of the Hippocratic Oath, arguably one of the most important document in medical ethics; it says 'I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect.'
Do we want doctors to decide who lives and dies? That is a tremendous role for one to fill, regardless of any kind of medical experience. Doctors could be subject to ridicule for 'playing god' when they were only trying to do as their patient wished. That seems far from fair.
As far as the financial side of things, medical insurance can get very tricky and insurers could be in it for the money. People seeking life insurance money could have hidden financial motives. How will the law be established so that there are no loopholes?
Such a strong idea can make our perspective widen. If this were legal, we would have to think about the empirical slippery slope that awaits us. If we allow this then what's next?
